Mystical sacral legacy
The Young Christians Association JONA undertook the project The culture of Izola through sacral objects. In the summertime St. Maur's church is guarded and the visitors can enjoy a guided visit of the church.
The association made a list of all the paintings, statues, and other works of art in the Parish church of St. Maur. They have also set information sheets in 4 languages (Slovene, Italian, English, and German) in front of every altar.
In the sacristy the association put on display St. Maur’s treasures, an exhibition of various liturgical objects and works of art. The most interesting are the reliquaries, the most important of which is the reliquary of St. Donat from the 19th century. The candelabra, processional crosses, prayer forms, and portraits of saints on forged silver from the 18th and 19th century will certainly attract visitors’ attention. The exhibition also includes chalices and monstrances, Baroque vestments, ceremonial clothes, paintings, a baptismal book and death register from the late 17th century, and a Roman missal from 1755.
The project was partly financed by the Municipality of Izola and other sponsors.
