This undemanding 16-kilometer trail is suitable for family trips and “field explorers” looking for future tours.
Description:
Start from Bohinjska Bistrica and ride along the right bank of the Sava River through the villages of Savica, Kamnje, Polje, and Laški Rovt to Ribčev Laz on Lake Bohinj. Admire the fresco of Sv. Krištof, the patron of travellers, on the Church of Sv. Janez, and then ride on to Stara Fužina, visit the Alpine Dairy Museum, Zois Manor, and the remains of the ironworks.
Continue to the village of Studor, past Bohinj’s famous “kozolci” (traditional Slovene hayracks) and visit the Oplenova House in Studor or ride on to Srednja vas and visit the chutes and waterfall of the Ribnica River. To reach them, turn left after the bridge and continue along the path to the waterfall on foot.
Then get back on the bike, ride through Češnjica and climb to Jereka to see the carved altar in the Church of Sv. Marjeta and the Mežnarjeva House, a typical example of Bohinj folk architecture. A relaxed downhill run and you are back at the starting point.
