In 1877, the Dean of Vipava Jurij Grabrijan initiated the building of 14 chapels. The chapels were finished in 1881. The painter Simon Ogrin painted them. After the Vipava dean Franc Pivk suggested it, inhabitants of Gradišče renovated the chapels in 1989. The painting of the chapels was entrusted to the painter Franc Krištof Zupet from Horjul at Vrhnika.
