The town was encircled by city walls running from Pungert along its west side , turning on the so-called "Krivica" eastwards to the brinks of Kokra Canyon. There were at least seven towers of defence incorporated into the walls, of which the first one was situated at Pungert and the last one at Špital i.e. near the hospital which gave the tower its name. The tower above Kokra has been preserved in the building on Maister's Square No.3 seen from its east side.
