A legend that surrounds the construction of the church in Kamna Gorica has it that the villagers wanted to build a church on the fields next to the village. They prepared the construction materials and tools there, but it all disappeared overnight and was found on a site above the village – so they decided to build the church there.

The construction of the church commenced in 1648. It features a rectangular original ground plan, a Baroque façade, and neo-Renaissance style furnishings and wall paintings. Some frescoes have been preserved on the church's exterior.
The high altar dates back to 1863. Originally, only two side altars could be found in the church: St Barbara, the patron of miners, and St Florian, the patron of fire fighters and the saint prayed to for protection from fire. The altar of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the altar of St Joseph were added in the eighteenth century. Of particular interest are the wrought-iron chandeliers, the work of Joža Bertoncelj, Kropa's master of wrought ironworks.
