The Bizeljsko-Sremiška Wine Road will charm you from the undulating winegrowing hills of Janeževa gorca and the southern slopes of Orlice, Drenovec, and Sromlje to Povrh, Trnovec, and Sremič. At every wine cellar, tourist farm, or modest vineyard cottage, try a different predicate wine, excellent sparkling wine, or one of the genuine and delightful local wines of the district: Rdeči Bizeljčan, Beli Bizeljčan, and Sremičan. For a touch of culture and history, visit the neo-Romanesque Basilica of Lurška Marija in Brestanica and the medieval Bizeljsko Manor, which incidentally has a splendid wine shop. The trail boasts numerous ethnographical treasures: an ancient wine press in the Gostišče Tri lučke Restaurant (54), which was used in the past to press up to 5,000 liters of must; the taflek, a wooden dresser that served as a cradle, a bed, and a table; and the “repnica,” a cave dug into the sandstone once used to store turnips (“repa”) and now wine. Take a walk along one of the Zdole Footpaths and visit Pekel and three other Bohor waterfalls.
