Višnja Gora, sprawled like a snail on a low ridge, was granted city rights in 1478 and is one of the best-preserved medieval settlements in Slovenia. Above the city are the ruins of Stari grad Castle, once the home of the famous Višnja Gora knights. Nearby is the Kosca Valley with the highest waterfall on a travertine foundation in Slovenia.
