The village of Bogojina, located 5 km from Moravske Toplice, is a popular stop for visitors to Prekmurje. The village is best known for the Church of the Ascension – a masterful creation by the architect Jože Plečnik. The church is regarded as the most modern contemporary representation of sacred architecture in the broader region. It is situated at the foot of Vršič hill (246 m), a prolific viticultural site. The locals affectionately refer to the church as "the white dove". The church is particularly famous for its rotund bell tower, the impeccably preserved ancient elements of the church, and the handicraft-ornamented ceiling. The church was commissioned by Parson Ivan Baša (1875-1931) – influential writer and awakener of the people of Prekmurje, and erected between 1925 and 1927. Franc Bajlec, a native of Bogojina and a student of Jože Plečnik, brokered the agreement and served as an invaluable link between the clergyman and the architect.
The village of Bogojina is known for its fertile vineyards – the "gorice", and for its breathtaking scenery – a most exciting feature for both casual visitors as well as sophisticated tourists to enjoy. An excellent destination for all adorers of pristine nature and enticingly fragrant fields. And the endless pastures embracing the village are a hoot to behold to boot! Several serviceable resting areas for hikers, wanderers, and cyclists are also arranged throughout the village.
Local societies cultivate a communal herbal garden. Each September, the village hosts the Flax Retting Event – a tribute to the once popular and locally important traditional chore of linen making. Hiking enthusiasts are welcome to participate in the 'Pohod po poteh kulturne dediščine– Explore the Local Cultural Heritage Walk' scheduled for the month of September. Both events are part of an annual festival known as 'Košičevi dnevi kulture' – Košič's Days of Culture. The place adjacent to the village culture centre – 'Košičev trg' – is named after Jožef Košič, the namesake of the festival.
A choir, a folklore group, and various societies are active in the village. There is also a Local Administration Office.
The aforementioned Jožef Košič (1788-1867) is a prominent figure in the history of Bogojina. He was a highly respected cleric, writer, ethnologist, and historian with vast knowledge about the the history and heritage of Prekmurje. Bogojina's premier cultural happening – 'Košičevi dnevi kulture' – Košič's days of Culture is named after him, as a tribute to his influential work and his love for culture. Another notable native of Bogojina is the distinguished catholic bishop, translator, writer, poet, and local historian Dr. Jožef Smej (b. 1922). A prolific writer, he is also the author of a biographical novel about the life of Mikloš Küzmič – the first Catholic writer in Prekmurje.
Bogojina is only a few kilometres from the exit Gančani-Moravske Toplice and has become much more easily accessible due the recently established road connection with the motorway.
