The settling of Središče ob Dravi reaches back to the times of Neolithic, however, Središče ob Dravi was only first mentioned in the year 1255 when the castle, which was later only rarely mentioned, had been supposedly built in the location of the present Trate. In the year 1532, the castle was said to have been destroyed by the Turks and due to that reason Središče ob Dravi obtained the name 'Eastern Styrian Fortress'.
In the year 1704 Kruci invaded Središče, and when the locals found out they headed to Ormož castle, the people of Središče gladly joining them. In the year 1848 the Programme for the Unity of Slovenia was strongly supported in Središče which was proven by the signing of a petition.
The town obtained the right for its Coat-of-Arms which, according to oral tradition, originated on the basis of the well-concluded blacksmith's work at the feudal lord’s which is portrayed with circles representing the wheels in the Coat-of-Arms.
The Church of the Mother of Sorrows, which has a Gothic image, is from the year 1637. The fittings are from the 18th century. In the interior, our eyes are automatically attracted to the Baroque altar painting of the Virgin Mary, the Protectress with the Mantle.
In Središče there is also an oil producing factory where, already for 100 years, excellent natural pumpkin oil from Središče has been produced, renowned at home and abroad. Most importantly, the production procedure has not been altered through all these years, but the experiences of employees have been passed down from generation to generation. For improving knowledge of pumpkin oil and dishes, the event Open Door is organised in the oil producing factory at the time of the gathering of pumpkins every first Saturday in October, which has an ethnological and entertaining character.
In Središče is also the Local National Liberation War Collection where battles against the aggressor are presented. By it stands an exhibition of the society life of Središče ob Dravi between WWI and WWII, as well as an exhibition of postcards and photographs of Središče ob Dravi today.
