The biggest settlement in Izola’s hinterland
Korte, the biggest settlement in Izola’s countryside, is 8 km from Izola and 224 m above sea level, so you can admire the view of hilly surroundings and the Sečovlje salt pans. Road to the village is well-marked and in good order. Becase of the distance it is best to go by car.
Treasures of the past
The village was first mentioned already in 1472 as Kurte. In 1960 it was renamed Dvori nad Izolo, but in 1984 inhabitants requested that the village be renamed and in 1988 it was renamed Korte. The village consists of the old part Spodnja vas (Lower village) and the new part Zgornja vas (Upper village), where do not forget to visit the church of St. Anthony the Hermit, where you will defenately be attracted by renovated baroque altars from the 18th Century, a custody with glagolitic inscription from 1468, frescoes of a Tyrolese painter and modern works of Mira Ličen Krmpotič.
Roam around the village
While walking in the village look at a renovated water catchment or treat yourself to a gourmet meal in one of the local restaurants. The young ones will want to spend the night in a well arranged youth hostel Stara šola Korte . There are many cycle and horse tracks connecting the village with nearby hamlets, where you can explore the Meditteranean nature, as well as old water catchments, mystical churches and other remains from previous periods.
