The local administrative community of Krško Polje consists of the villages of Drnovo, Brege, Mrtvice and Vihre, which are home to around 970 inhabitants. The flat country of the Krka Plain or Krško Polje is bounded to the south by the Ljubljana-Zagreb motorway. The gravelly Sava alluvium is unfortunately only covered by a scant layer of soil, so the vegetation here is frequently exposed to drought. A long-planned irrigation system promises, when it is completed, to reorient agricultural production towards garden vegetables and vines. It would also be worth dedicating more attention to light horse breeding, an activity for which Krško Polje was once famous, for the purposes of sport. Early settlement is a characteristic of the entire area of the local administrative community. The area was particularly important in Roman times – when the town of Neviodunum stood on the site of today's village of Drnovo.
