Batuje with its settlement parts and small villages of Britih, Na griču, Na cesti, Na hribu, Brsnice, Figel, Mlaka, Postaja, Vipava, is a compact settlement 128 m above sea level, although the lowest point below the village at Vipava descends to only 60 m above sea level. Geographical gifts and a beneficial strategic position facilitated an early and permanent settlement. After the year 1001 Batuje belonged to the Gorica Counts. Later, WWI strongly interfered with the natural, economical and cultural development of the town. The authority of the Italians after WWI was a difficult ordeal for the inhabitants. However, they revived the Batuje Cultural Society, musical and theatrical activities became alive, and the gymnasts from Batuje were famous.
Nor did WWII bring a final incorporation into the central nation. Instead, life after the war brought new difficulties. The new border interrupted the flow of the traffic routes. The traditional centre Gorica remained in zone A and so the village started to connect economically and culturally to the new centre of Ajdovščina.
Points of distinction : In Batuje there are early medieval archaeological finds. At the church of St. Anne there is a Gothic presbytery with frescoes from the end of the 15th century. In the vestry there are two fragmented samples of ornamental weaving from the 11th century built into the wall.
