A walk along the former borderline is a real treat for history lovers.
After World War I, the Rapallo Treaty of 1920 ceded the territory of Slovenia’s Primorska region to Italy. The Italians occupied the Baška grapa area, set up border markers and built roads, barracks, bunkers, and other fortifications on the mountain peaks until the beginning of World War II.
When they lost the region again after World War II, many of these objects were overgrown by vegetation, but some were preserved and today make interesting historical monuments including the bunker on Kup, the fortification and border markers on top of Mount Bača, the barracks on Mount Možic, the iron bunker on Mount Lajnar, and many others.
The marked trail along the old border maintained by the Podbrdo Tourist Association leads across the peaks above the Baška grapa gorge (Porezen, Slatnik, Možic, and Črna prst), beginning and ending in Podbrdo.
This area is also the traditional site of the mountain marathon of four municipalities.
