There are a growing number of accommodation providers in Slovenia who realise the importance of coexisting with nature. Their efforts to reduce the negative impacts on the environment can be seen in the construction or renovation of accommodation facilities, which are as energy-efficient as possible, they properly manage drinking water and waste water, they separate and recycle waste, and use organic detergent for washing. These accommodation facilities also offer, for instance, various ecological workshops and training courses.

Two shining examples of this kind of sustainably oriented tourism among Slovenian hotel operators are Terme Snovik and Park Hotel Bohinj.

EU Eco-daisy

Terme Snovik is the first Slovenian tourism company to carry the official European Union emblem for an environment-friendly tourist accommodation facility. It acquired the EU Eco-daisy for its efforts to reduce atmospheric pollution, to save energy and other natural resources and to reduce pollution of the environment and surrounding area (giving up the use of pesticides and fertilisers). In their menu they use organic food. Guests at the “eco spa” will receive a handy booklet entitled Let’s Care for Our Environment, and children will get the specially adapted Snovik Eco Cool News.

Green Globe

Park Hotel Bohinj is the first ecological hotel in Slovenia to boast the Green Globe certificate, which has now spread to more than 80 countries around the world. The certificate is based on internationally accepted criteria for sustainable co-natural operation and management in tourism. It can be acquired only by hotels that demonstrate a contribution in preserving the environment and that confirm their position every two years, as well as working to ensure their continuous advancement in the area of sustainable development.

Ecological tourist farms

You can also check out the orientation towards green, sustainable tourism in the Slovenian countryside. Slovenia’s ecological tourist farms are a fine example of the coexistence of humans and nature. They offer guests a healthy environment to stay in and organic food, for which they hold a certificate from the authorised control organisation. This food is healthy, high-quality and very tasty. There are dozens of such farms in Slovenia.
