Day 1: Arrival to BLED
On the first day you are going to learn about the picturesque Bled, the city famous for its glacial lake with the island and the church in the middle, located between the Julian Alps. You will have a free afternoon. You can take a walk through Bled, walk around the lake, go to the island by boat, ring the bell at the church on the island, climb up to the castle and enjoy the beautiful view or choose any of the other activities offered in Bled. You can also sit down in one of the cafes and try the famous dessert “kremšnita”. Accommodation In Bled.

We leave by bus to the Pokljuka plateau from where you can admire the beautiful views of Bohinj Valley with another gem of the Triglav National Park, glacial Lake Bohinj. The path will lead you through small villages, where you can see typical farms of  Gorenjska region and “kozolec” a typical construction used to dry hay. You reach Ribčev Laz (the passage of fishermen) that is located near the beautiful Lake Bohinj. The lake is surrounded by magnificent peaks of the Julian Alps and is the largest and deepest in Triglav National Park. The view of the lake from the bridge in Ribčev Laz is amazing. In the afternoon you will bike around the lake to the Savica Waterfalls, the birth of Sava Bohinjka. After that you are going to ascend with the cable car to the mountain of Vogel and enjoy the splendid view of the Julian Alps. Before bedtime you have to try cheese and homemade liquor in the village. Accommodation in Bohinj.

Leaving the Bohinj Valley you will bike through the picturesque nature to Bohinjska Bistrica Valley. Then continue with an ascent of 750m up to the Jelovica Plateau and descent through the forest to Saleška Valley and the hills of Škofja Loka. The first stop is in the village of Sorica, situated among the green hills. Famous Slovenian painter Ivan Grohar was born here. His statue will greet you at the entrance of the village. There is also a gallery with his work. The second stop is in Železniki, a village famous for the furnace of iron. On the route you can stop at a restaurant “gostilna” to try typical food of the region. Finally you will arrive to the famous medieval city of Škofja Loka. You should climb to the Škofja Loka Castle where you will have a beautiful view of the old town. In the afternoon you can take a stroll through the medieval streets of the city. Accommodation in Škofja Loka.

After breakfast we depart to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. In Ljubljana we will visit the old town with a mixture of baroque architecture, art nouveau and architecture from famous architect Jože Plečnik. From the Ljubljana Castle you can admire the view over Ljubljana, and on a sunny day you can see up to the Julian Alps. In the evening you can go for a drink in one of the bars along the Ljubljanica River or take a walk through the illuminated capital (or both). Accommodation in Ljubljana.

After breakfast we leave to the hills east of Ljubljana. We are going to climb up and enjoy the beautiful views of the Ljubljana basin. On the way we are going to stop at some farmhouses where they will serve us their homemade products. If you decide to do an easier route you can select a route through the swamp of Ljubljana. Long ago a large but shallow lake covered this area. There you can enjoy the unique flora and fauna. Accommodation in Ljubljana.

Early in the morning you are going to bike through a swampy area called Barje that surrounds the Ljubljana basin in the south. The swamp of Ljubljana is an important wildlife reserve. On the way you can stop and visit the picturesque gorge of Iški Vintgar. Before arriving to Vrhnika you can also visit the Technical Museum in the Bistra Castle. There you can see the collection of interesting objects of Tito, dictator of former Yugoslavia. Accommodation in Vrhnika.

A day of hills and side roads. We will bike on little more demanding route through hills, forests and “polje” a typical field of the Karst region. We will avoid typical tourist routes. It will take you along the mountain of Slivnica to Lake Cerknica. The lake is a very interesting natural phenomenon. The water level is not permanent, because the water is running out. In the afternoon you can stop at Škocjan Natural Park and have a picnic in the extraordinary nature. Accommodation in Postojna.

An easy day with a long descent. Accommodation in a tourist farm 2*. Visit of the Postojna Cave. It is the longest karst cave in Slovenia with over 20km of galleries and it takes approximately 2 hours to visit the 5km path. One of the most famous attractions of the cave is the human fish, which lives only in the karst water and is blind. After visiting the cave, you can make a detour to the famous Predjama Castle, which is constructed in a rock. The castle is located in a spectacular place, on a 123 meters cliff. According to the legend the famous Baron Erazem Lueguer died violently in the castle. This legend is deeply imprinted in the Slovenian folklore. This hero-thief in the style of Robin Hood was attacking the caravan traders on the important route connecting Vienna and Trieste. There is a restaurant in the castle where you can eat and feel as a medieval knight. Accommodation on a tourist farm near Štanjel.

The terrain is predominantly inclined, only a slight ascent. First stop is at the botanical gardens in Sežana. The route continues to the famous Lipica stud farm, one of the world-renowned Lipizzaner horses, a tradition of several centuries. The Lipizzaner excite lovers of classical riding that is governed by the principles of the Spanish horseback riding school of Vienna, including sports training and carriage rides. The Lipizzaner event and the guided tour will impress you. Accommodation in Divača.

A long descent from the karst plateau to Trieste (Italy). The last day of the bike tour will be a visit of the Italian city Trieste. The city was an important port at the time of the Habsburg Monarchy. We will visit the Miramar Castle, the cathedral and the famous square “Piazza dell Unita”. Relax with a cappuccino in one of the old bars in the square facing the gulf of Trieste. The route continues to Koper, the capital of Slovenian Istra. While cycling along the coast you can admire the Venetian architecture and the picturesque city Piran. Accommodation in Piran.

The alternative is to skip Trieste and ascend from karst plateau directly to the Slovenian coast, Koper and picturesque small towns along the coast.
