Ljubljana's popular outdoor gallery located in Tivoli Park hosts an exhibition of one hundred photographs taken by the British photographer Deborah Beer during the shooting of Andrei Tarkovsky's cinematic masterpiece Nostalghia (1983). The photographs are being displayed to the public for the first time.
Andrei Tarkovsky is considered to be one of the best film directors of all time. He wrote himself into film history with his distinctive and unique style and a poetic approach to the theme of spiritual search. The photographs taken on the set of Nostalghia, his last but one film, are sourced from the Gideon Bachmann Collection, which is held by the photographic archives of Cinemazero Images in Pordenone, Italy.
The world premiere of the exhibition Tarkovsky’s Nostalghia: The Journey Within is part of a project called Year of Cinema, which marks the 90th anniversary of the opening of a cinema in the Kolodvorska ulica street in Ljubljana (now known as the Kinodvor cinema) and 50 years of the Slovenian Cinematheque in the Miklošičeva ulica street.
