The original women’s Dominican convent was founded by the Aquileian Patriarchs in the year 1238.  It was severely damaged during an invasion by the Turks in 1471.  It obtained its present shape between the years 1732 and 1771, when it was renovated according to plans designed by C. Zulliani. In 1782 it was dissolved by Joseph II and it housed the military hospital, later it was the seat of the lordship. Of   the convent buildings, the eastern part with apartments, schools and the vicarage is preserved.
