Židovski Trg square

Maribor, 2000 Maribor
You will find the square by exploring the Jewish quarter of the city, which was formed in Lent, the oldest part of Maribor. The square boasts a Synagogue, which in every Jewish quarter was a religious, spiritual and cultural centre. The mighty tree named Alianthus or Pajesen, which originates from China, will also inspire you.

The Jews in Maribor

This part was first mentioned in the year 1353, as Židovska ulica (Jewish Street). Jews namely populated Maribor in the second half of the 13th century and as a special group of the population having its own religion, customs and life style they lodged inside the city walls in a special quarter.
