There is no exact information about the development of the village. During the First World War the battles of the Isonzo Front took place in the surroundings, which brought great misfortunes to the villagers. Moreover, the soldiers had their posts and hospital in the village. They even built several caverns in the vicinity for defence purposes, which can still be seen today.
Preserje’s most interesting feature is the village well and the water pump placed in a cylindrical hut in the village centre. The hut, which protects the manual pump, was built by the villagers in 1927, whereas the well and the pump itself were built earlier.
