The former village of “uskoki” supposedly gained its name after the plant nettle. The upper and lower part of the village are joined by the village well štirna, which has the year 1817 engraved on its upper part. The church of sv. Elija from 1802, houses one of the most fascinating presbyteries in Karst. It is surrounded by lime and chestnut trees, a monument to general Borojević and a memorial plaque dedicated to pilot Josip Križaj, a hero of the Spanish Republican Army and NOB fighter. Kopriva is also the birthplace of writer Branka Jurca. In the northern part are several sinkholes and remains of »java« Rova, where fifty years ago the famous kopriva
stone was extracted. Beside the road there is also a renovated kal and two pils stands on both sides of the village.
Automobiles : The village is situated along the road between Dutovlje and Štanjel.
