The village of Gornji Petrovci is also the centre of the municipality of Gornji Petrovci and the location of the municipal offices, a bank, a post office, a branch of the Triglav insurance company, a post office, a health centre with pharmacy and dental clinic, a primary school, a florist's and garden centre, a hairdressing salon, a mill and oil press, a hardware store, a butcher's shop, a fabric shop and a self-service shop. The largest part of the village lies along the main Murska Sobota-Hodoš road, while the other houses are grouped into eight hamlets: Smodišini, Gešarini, Grškovje, Golibe, Olabe, Kovačecini, Kardošini and Pri Kolodvoru. The village has a Protestant church (in Olabe) and the Catholic church of the Holy Trinity (also known as Nedela) in Nedelski Breg. Gornji Petrovci is also home to the RLS textile factory and an Agromerkur poultry farm. The large primary school in Gornji Petrovci is attended by 137 pupils from all 14 villages in the municipality. The school was built in 1961 (and opened on 5 November 1961). In 2002 it was voted the best-kept primary school in Slovenia as part of a project called "My Country – Beautiful and Hospitable". The municipality is currently building a new nursery school and crèche alongside the school building. As well as the fire brigade hall, Gornji Petrovci has a village hall in which numerous events are organised throughout the year. Some local clubs and societies use these premises for rehearsals. The village hall also houses the studios of a local cable TV channel covering the municipality. The channel is run by the local administrative community of Gornji Petrovci. There are three blocks of flats in the lower part of the village of Gornji Petrovci and two more in Olabe, the upper part. One of the blocks in the lower part of the village also houses the police station.
