Col is an important road junction, whose strategic location was important even in the Roman era, because a Roman road passed through it. On the nearby Šance, Šturmanik and Rižemberk hills lie the remains of former fortifications. Due to its narrow pass, Col was an ideal place for collecting tolls, and its present name stems from the German word Zoll, which means toll. Only a tower remains of the former Trilek Mansion which sits right beside the road. A milestone from the 4th century and coins from even further back were found in the tower.
