The village of Cesta, which at the same time is also the Local Community Cesta, lies 3 km west of Ajdovščina in the direction towards Nova Gorica. The main highway Ajdovščina-Nova Gorica separates the village into two parts. On the south part there is also a railway track. Even more southward lies the motorway; above it stands the beautiful little medieval town of Vipavski Križ. These two places are also quite connected as they have a common church, cemetery, school and community hall. The settlement of Cesta experienced a severe tragedy on 2nd June 1944 (WWII) – the date when the village was entirely burnt down. Immediately after the war it was rebuilt anew. Every year on 2nd June the inhabitants remember the unpleasant event with a solemn memorial service.
