Lenart v Slovenskih goricah
Start your ramble in Ptuj (22), where the city vineyard grows in the very center of its medieval core, which is also the home of Slovenia’s oldest still working wine cellar (27). The route leads through Dornava with its Baroque manor to Polenšak, known for its July harvest festival, and to Juršinci where in October you can join in celebrating a good harvest at the Autumn Thanksgiving festival. Climb the lookout tower on Gomila (352 m), drive through Mala Nedelja to Stara gora and see the windmill, and then past Blaguško Lake to Cerkvenjak, Sv. Andraž, Vitomarci, and Trnovska vas, where the marsh tulip (fritillary) still grows and grey herons nest. On the road to Lenart, Sv. Trojica and Gradiško Lake are inviting stops, and the road further leads to Zavrh and the Maister lookout tower. Along the road through Selce, treat yourself to some vitamins on the local Fruit Trail. Friendly Destrnik on the hill welcomes you, and going through Drstelja and Grajenščak, you can wander on to Vurberk, or if you have had enough treats and sights, you can return to Ptuj.
