This sunny trip begins in Orehovica, which has the best sites for Zelen, an autochthonous Vipava grape variety. The villages of Lože, Slap, and Goče boast “velban” (“vaulted”) cellars and stone portals and wells. Continue on through Vipava (47), where Count Lanthieri and the Vipava River with its springs both left a strong stamp. At the Gostišče Podskala restaurant (48), located by the most beautiful spring, you can enjoy a lunch of authentic Vipava dishes. Continue on to Gradišče or Vrhpolje, where Gradiška tura and the rock wall along the torrential Bela stream invites fans of free-climbing. In Budanje, you can pick early cherries yourself! Take the climb to Planina and enjoy a glass of wine at the Fortunatov hram (46), which bears the date 1874. Further on, Erzelj is a village with a turbulent history. Pinela, another autochthonous Vipava grape variety, grows in these hills. Tasting this and other Vipava wines is a must at the vineyards in the villages of Potoče, Šmarje, Brje (35, 36), Zavino . .
