The Kolpa Natural Park was declared in 1998. The basic purpose of the Natural Park is conservation of valuable natural features, biodiversity, and landscape diversity, as well as implementation of measures for ensuring preservation of Natura 2000 areas and ecologically important areas in the park. The purpose of the park is also connecting economic and social development in the area of Kolpa Natural Park, performs within the public service of nature conservation also protection, expert, supervisory, and managerial tasks in the area of the park.
