The village of Škocjan has been the home of the Škocjan tourist association for 12 years. Its members are mostly from Škocjan and nearby villages (Matavun, Betanja, Naklo, Brežec,..).
The association is very active as it has been arranging the Škocjan festival presenting several theatrical plays, hosting different choirs on Midsummer Night etc., for 10 years and walks along the sink of the river Reka for 11 years. The traditional walk ends in the Škocjan village square where members of the association take care that the participants regain their strength with a delicious home made jota. The arrival of the local dedek Mraz delivering presents to children and the cultural programme have been taking place every year since the association´s establishment. In March we celebrate Mother´s Day in the association´s premises or in the restaurant Gostilna pri Jami in Matavun. Several workrooms for children and extempores for children and adults, painting and photographic exhibitions are also organized.
All activities and events take place in the village square, near which stands the seat of the tourist association. It rearranged its premises in the abandoned building of the elementary school, which was entirely renovated. Members also make sure that the village centre is constantly well arranged.
