The Sežana Mountaineering Club was founded in November, 1952. From its beginning, the number of members increasingly grew and reached its peak from 1986 to 1987, when more than 1000 mountain lovers joined in. However, after 1997 the membership dropped drastically, even the hiking area was dramatically reduced. Several boards and commissions work within the club: the Signpost Board, the Youth Department, the Guiding and Mentoring Board, the Commission on Environmental Preservation, the Supervisory Board and an Honorary Arbitration Board.
Our head office arranges and conducts excursions for adults and younger generations and at the same time, assists other associations in organizing traditional treks and excursions. The mentorship office is in charge of activities taking place in indergartens and elementary schools and has mountaineering sections based in Komen, Dutovlje, Sežana and Divača. Apart from the regular programme of treks and excursions, the club arranges a traditional gathering of young mountaineers, taking place every May at Vremščica. There is also the trekking on Kokoš hill, occurring within the local holiday. The cottage on top of the hill is entirely managed by the club (by providing suitable keepers), which ensures its proper running throughout the year. A stamp can also be received in the cottage. Besides the traditional treks, we also arrange a summer mountaineering camp, which attracts more members each year.
Our main goal is to gain new members, who want to gather among the splendours of nature, learn about safe mountain trekking, preserve the natural and cultural heritage, protect nature and above all, maintain positive human values.
