Stone well at the Main Square (Mestni trg) in Škofja Loka

Print Add to travel planner
Škofja Loka
The stone well stands in the Town Square (Mestni trg) between the trees, constructed in the year 1883. It has the shape of a square prism with two shells and a decorative jar on the top, with the coat-of-arms. The door is between the towers, and in them is the Blackman's head, taken from the coat-of-arms of the Freising counts. As the signature indicates, the monumental part of the well from stone was made by V. Čamernik. The well is quite deep and supposedly reaches to the level of the Sora. Even before World War I, the water was pumped by moving two vertical iron poles back and forth. In those times the water was better than from today's water supply. Later the poles were removed, the pump was abandoned and a water pipe was installed into the column.
