From the confluence of the Sava Bohinjka and the Sava Dolinka downstream the Sava river drifts away from the main highways. Its flows remind one of the good old days. Its not very easily accessible gravel beds, the deep pools and quiet passages in its stretch between the inflow of the Tr`i{ka Bistrica downstream to Kranj are open to the rare admirers of the remaining wilderness. There are indeed fewer fish here than in maintained fishing grounds, but they are all wild Sava-born fish. This area still offers trophy grayling and brown trout, not to mention the abundant rainbow trout. Below Kranj, the Sava gorge is lost in the accumulation of the hydropower plant (HPP) at 'Mavčiče' – Trboje Lake. The change of the natural environment best suits cyprinids. Hundreds of nase glitter when they strike the rocks above the accumulation. The depths of the lake hide huge pike and pike-perch, in addition to which there are chub and trophy carp. This scene is repeated in the next accumulation at HPP 'Medvode' at Zbilje Lake. Below the Medvode hydropower plant dam, the previous image of the Sava is somewhat restored. Cascades, rapids, pools and quiet interludes follow one another. The nase, barbel and chub are the main fish species. Simultaneously, this is the main huchen fishing ground on the Sava. Catches of trophy huchen of a metre and more in length and weighing more than ten kilograms are registered every year. It was here in 2005 that the largest Slovenian huchen, weighing 27.4 kg was caught.
