The Vipava is a productive Karst water of the Adriatic basin that adds a special flavour to the Vipava valley. In its upper and middle reaches, trout is present, including marble trout, hybrids, brown trout and rainbow trout. The grayling is rare. The lower reaches are a paradise for anglers, as it is exceptionally rich in nase. At the same time, it is extremely alluring to fishermen who favour spinning for predatory fish species. The pike-perch is present in smaller numbers, while the pike population is very good, but is overshadowed by the wels. An annual feature every year is catches of trophy wels weighing over 50 kilograms.
