From Rogatec you set off in the direction of Žetale toward Donačka gora. This mountain has three summits: the Ženčaj ridge (616 m), the more rounded Resenik (735 m), and the 881-meter high peak. When you reach the altitude of 590 meters, you can stop for a snack at the Donačka gora Mountain Lodge. Struggle another few hundred meters up the steep slope, and a wonderful stone cross and a marvelous view all around of Haloze, Dravsko polje, Ptujsko polje, Croatian Zagorje, and Posotelje will be your reward. If you’re feeling like a bird, you can take off here with a hang-glider! The entire trail runs through a primeval beech forest that covers twenty-seven hectares and has been protected as a nature reserve since 1965. Exceptionally diverse vegetation is also characteristic of Donačka gora: hart’s tongue fern, spruce, goat’s beard, alpine golden chain tree, sweet chestnut, and turkey oak grow here. An indigenous houseleek (Sempervivum juvanii) grows on rock shelves of the sunny side of the mountain.
