The Vipava Valley offers abundant possibilities for hiking. It is full of walking paths for different tastes, leading past numerous natural, cultural and historical, sights throughout the year. Especially interesting are the trips to the popular Anton Bavčar mountain hut on Čaven and the mountain hut under Golaki, the trips to the Trnovo Plateau, the Mount Gora and the Nanos Plateau, as well as to the somewhat lower but also interesting Vipava Hills. All the peaks surrounding the Vipava Valley offer magnificent far reaching views, which is already the reason why they are worth visiting. Duration of tour
There are several trails leading to the top of Mount Mali Golak (1495m), an outstanding vista point in the Trnovo Forest. The easiest trail leads from the town of Ajdovščina either through the village of Lokavec or the village of Col to the village of Predmeja. From Predmeja, there is another kilometre and a half along the road towards the village of Lokve, to the right turn towards the Golak mountains – the forest dirt road ends at a large parking lot. After halfan- hour walk along the broad dirt road and a few-minute walk along the forest dirt road, you reach the mountain hut under Golaki (1280m), which is open throughout the year on weekends and holidays. To the top of Mount Mali Golak, there is a further 40-minute walk along a somewhat steeper trail. Mount Mali Golak is also a part of the Slovenian Mountain Trail (stamp). We return to the starting point along the same route.
