DESCRIPTION OF THE PATH
At the tourist farm Koren we cross the road and go directly uphill past the
Church of Saint Nicholas to the Žužemberk – Prevole road. We leave it soon
taking the right logging trail, sloping to the Komanca hunters’ cottage. We
follow macadam road for a while and then go directly onto the forest trail
through diverse forested landscape. Soon we see a wine – growing hill with
vineyard cottages and shortly after Lašče village. We continue our trip along the
motorway toward Kočevje, but turn left at the first forest road. The path leads
us through extensive forests with slight slopes. After approximately 8 km we
direct left to the forest road and descend toward Podhosta, and before that we
cross forest roads twice. We continue right towards Podturn and turn left at the
branch for Meniška village. As soon as we cross the Radešca bridge, we turn
into the village named in connection with former Stična Abbey, and then along
the cart track among fields and meadows. By the forest edge we arrive at the
Sela settlement and from here along the sidewalk to Dolenjske Toplice.
INTERESTING SITES ON THE PATH
• The Church of Saint Nicholas in Žužemberk is a medieval building with a
Janez Ljubljanski fresco remaining and baroque altar fittings.
• Lašče village is first mentioned in 1145 as a property of Stična abbey.
• Dolenjske Toplice is mentioned first in 1228, spa tourism started to develop
by the thermal spring water in the 18th century. Tourism blossomed in
connection with the Royal Auersperg family. The parish originated in 1792.
• The Church of Saint Anna is a medieval building, baroque-decorated in
the 17th century. Beside it we can find the ruins of the defensive wall built
against the Turkish invasions.
