The Kamnik-Savinja Alps are a jagged mountain range tempting visitors with numerous marked trails and primal mountain wilderness at virtually every step in the central part, where the peaks rise above 2,500m. The Kamniška Bistrica Valley, to the south of the mountains, is a great place to visit. There is a road as well as a marked trail leading up to the mountain hut Dom v Kamniški Bistrici, the best starting point to tackle the peaks. A very tempting place to be is Velika Planina, a mountain pasture famous for its fascinating settlement of shepher.
