Destination Laško – The Confluence of Good is this year’s winner of the Slovenian selection of the European Destination of Excellence (EDEN). After the Soča Valley, Solčavsko Region, Kolpa River and the town of Idrija, Slovenia has gained the fifth European Destination of Excellence. The official award ceremony of the European Destination of Excellence title at state level will be held on 5 June 2013. At the European level, the destination will first be presented in Brussels in autumn, where it will be awarded the title by the European Commission.

Three destinations competing for the title 'European Destination of Excellence 2013
This year, seven destinations contended for the title EDEN 2013, while the expert committee selected three finalists. The winning destination will be announced at the beginning of May; the award will be presented at the beginning of June at a celebration in the selected destination.
The EDEN project is one of the key strategic projects of SPIRIT Slovenia, Public Agency, Slovenian Tourist Board, within the framework of which Slovenian destinations are encouraged to develop green tourism that considers the social, cultural and environmental aspects of sustainability, with the help of European financial aid.
Destinations that have been awarded with the most points are (in alphabetical order): - Laško – confluence of good; - Radol’ca and - Zeleni Kras - Green Karst.
Two years after its successful candidacy for EuroBasket 2013 and less than nine months before the start of the Championships, Slovenia is making the final preparations for the largest European basketball event, which will take place between 4th and 22nd September 2013. This is not merely the largest sports event in the history of Slovenia, but also an opportunity for Slovenia, Ljubljana and other host cities to show their best to the European basketball elite and their fans.
At the opening of the Alpe-Adria Tourism and Leisure Show on 24 January 2013 in Ljubljana, SPIRIT Slovenija, public agency and the Tourism and Internationalisation Directorate at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology presented the 'sejalec' award. This traditional award for innovation in tourism was presented for the ninth time, this year to the products GoOpti and Vitagen.
At a UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Sankt Peterburg on 30 June 2012, a decision was made that the nominated mining heritage in Idrija and Almaden shall enter the Unesco World Heritage List.
At a ceremony in Idrija on 12 December 2012, six months after this important decision, Petya Totcharova, an important representative of the World Heritage Centre from Paris and deputy director of the World Centre covering the geographical area of Europe, officially handed over the Unesco document to the towns of Idrija and Almaden.

For a period of 20 days the twitter.com/sloveniainfo and the instagram.com/feelslovenia accounts will try to show Slovenia as a winter destination in the best possible way and invite all users to visit.

The SLOVENIAN TOURIST BOARD held a brunch for journalists at the World Travel Market 2012, in London’s ExCel centre on Monday, November 5th. It was hosted by NBA basketball star Raso Nesterovic to emphasize the importance of the role Slovenia, and its capital city Ljubljana, will play in the FIBA EuroBasket 2013. On Tuesday, November 6th, a new sustainable orientated booking website EGOZERO was launched at the Slovenia stand at the travel market.
The 2ndDays of Slovenian Tourism (DST), which took place between 15th and 17th October at the Radenci Spa in Radenci, again brought together major tourist events in Slovenia: the 15th Slovenian Tourism Forum with the plenary part of DST, the event “My country – beautiful and hospitable”, the 59th Slovenian Catering and Tourism Convention and other events organised by stakeholders in Slovenian tourism. The plenary portion of the 15th Slovenian Tourism Forum focused on the topic of “Slovenian tourism facing the challenges of tightened economic conditions”, where respectable lecturers from Slovenia and abroad searched for answers to questions that are raised in the face of the severe economic situation within this vital branch of the Slovenian economy.
6% more foreign tourists recorded in the 1st half of the year
In the first 6 months of 2012, a moderate growth of arrivals and overnight stays at Slovenian tourist destinations was recorded. The number of foreign tourists in the half year rose by 6%, creating a 4% increase of overnight stays. There were one per cent fewer domestic tourists recorded in the first half year, creating a 3% decrease in overnight stays; however, in June, the number of domestic tourists rose again by a surprising 8%.

In the competition for the best photography of Slovenia, which is underway within the scope of the “Picture Slovenia” project, a photo by Matej Vranič entitled Church on the Island was selected as the best. Over 1700 photographers took part in the competition, submitting over 5000 photographs. For the first time, foreign photographers were also invited to participate in the contest.

Green. Active. Healthy. Slovenia at the Olympics 2012
Tourism and sports have always been tightly connected, frequently also dependant on each other. The sports achievements of our Olympic athletes – naturally we all cheer them on – strongly contribute to the better recognisability of Slovenia and its tourist offer not only on the British, but also on the global market. Namely, the Olympic Games are an extremely significant event that draws the attention of sports lovers as well as everyone else. In all honesty – during the Olympic Games, almost everyone is glued to their TV screens.
The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) is aware of the importance and role of the Olympic Games in the area of the promotion of Slovenia; therefore, it is intensively cooperating with the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, Government Communication Office (GCO) and Pivovarna Laško for the presentation of our country during the Olympic Games. The presentation will be carried out within the framework of a specially rented pub, Team Slovenia London Pub, in London during the Olympic Games. The pub is located in the Camden Town district, famous for its concerts. It is located near the King Cross traffic hub, from which Camden Town station is only one stop away. The Olympic centre is connected by tram with Camden Road station, from which the pub is only a 10-minute walk away.
The STB will present Slovenia as a green, active and healthy tourist destination with the slogan/theme "Slovenia. Green. Active. Healthy!". The theme "Slovenia. Green. Active. Healthy!" was formed in cooperation with Slovenian athletes and substantially corresponds to the presentation within the framework of the Olympic Games. The promotional material "Slovenia. Green. Active. Healthy!" was prepared in accordance with this slogan/theme. Moreover, the equipment in the Team Slovenia London Pub (posters, ‘penguins’, flags, etc.) will be connected with the indicated theme and in accordance with the national tourist brand I feel Slovenia.
The STB information office in London will provide assistance for the organization of receptions and invitations of journalists, agents and other business partners of Slovenian tourism in Great Britain, which are planned to take place in the Team Slovenia London Pub. The STB is also actively cooperating with the Olympic Committee of Slovenia for appearances of Slovenian athletes in various media (social media, Foursquare, press releases, TTA news on www.tta.si, journalist centre in London, etc.). We are cooperating and providing help and assistance to Slovenian sports journalists who will be reporting from the Olympic Games in London.
We would also like to mention that the Team Slovenia London Pub will be open to other visitors who will have the opportunity to “feel Slovenia” in the pub; namely, the pub will be equipped with promotional materials that promote the brand I feel Slovenia.

Slovenia – a partner country at the f.re.e fair in Munich
Between 22 and 26 February 2012, Munich will host the fair for travel and leisure “f.re.e” (Freizeit, Reisen, Erlebniss; formerly known as C.B.R.), the largest Bavarian fair for free time, travel and adventures. The presentation of Slovenia and Slovenian tourist offer will be given special attention at the upcoming f.re.e fair, since Slovenia is a partner country to the fair this year. Under the wings of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), Slovenian tourist offer will be presented to the expert, trade and general public as an attractive green destination ideal for active holidays. Within the partnership frame, special emphasis in Slovenia’s presentation will be given to the presentation of Portorož/Piran with the aim to present Slovenia to Bavarians as a nearby, attractive and quality Mediterranean destination.
Last year, more tourists came to Slovenia than in 2008, which had been the most successful year for tourism until now. According to the final official data provided by the Slovenian Statistical Office (SORS), the total number of overnight stays by tourists increased by 5% last year, compared to the year before, and surpassed 9.3 million overnight stays. The total number of tourists last year amounted to over 3.2 million, implying a growth in the amount of 7%. Compared to 2008, a record year until now, the total number of overnight stays in tourism grew by 1%, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 2%.

Slovenia has received its fourth European Destination of Excellence
The destination of Idrija with the tourist product "Idrija – A Story for All Times" is this year’s winner of the EDEN selection. With Idrija joining past winners, the Soča Valley, Solčavsko and Kolpa River, Slovenia has received its fourth European Destination of Excellence. The official awarding of the title "European Destination of Excellence" will be held in Slovenia on the 8th of June. The destination award will also be presented in September at the European Tourism Day in Brussels where it will be officially recognised by the European Commission.
20 years have passed since Slovenia became an independent and internationally recognized country. Among the celebrations to mark the anniversary, there is one dedicated especially to Slovenians living abroad. River Kolpa receives title European Destination of Excellence 2010
Ljubljana, 22 April 2010 - The River Kolpa destination and its tourist product "Kolpa. Touch the story” is this year’s winner of the EDEN selection. So now, following the Soča Valley and Solčavsko, Slovenia has gained a third European Destination of Excellence. Awarding of the title European Destination of Excellence on the national level will take place in June in the area of the River Kolpa destination. On the European level, the destination will present itself for the first time as part of the European Open Days in Brussels, where the title will be awarded by the European Commission.
