Virgin forest. In the year 1888 dr. Leopold Hufnagel started with his work in the forest around Kočevje. He introduced selective economy in the forest. In 1892 he made first forest- economic plan for the region around the village Gotenica. In the plan is written famous remark: Districts 38 and 39 should be preserved as virgin forest, and that is why inside this area any use is forbidden. This is why is the year 1892 counted as the beginning of nature preserving in Slovenia.
