The Regional museum Goriški muzej is according to its orientation a provincial museum with a general character. It operates in the area of fifteen communities in Primorska – the Slovene Litoral. On the First Floor of the Kromberk Castle, the permanent exhibitions of the Art History and Cultural History department are on display: a gallery of old art, culturaly history collection with the emphasis on 19th century painting (featuring paintings by Franc Kavčič, Jožef Tominc and Anton Karinger) and a gallery of 20th century visual artists from the Primorska region. On the second floor the Archaeology and Ethnology Depatment organise temporary tematic exhibitions.
