How we used to sail
On the ground floor of the Parenzana muesum there is a permanent exhibition of model ships that was created in the framework of the project Izola – a street Museum, the aim of which is to present the message of the museum exhibits to the passers by.
Already in the past shipbuilding was one of the most important crafts of the marine activities in Izola. The existence of the first shipbuilding company in the Slovene territory goes back to 1441. The collection of model ships shows the tradition of wooden vessels building in Istria. The visitors can admire models of a number of vessels used for various purposes, mainly fishing boats and vessels of the northern Adriatic Sea.
Besides the models, the museum displays vessels’ production, old photos, and drawings.
