The name of this stone stepped bridge took root after the troops of Napoleon had marcheed across it. But the bridge in fact dates back to the Roman period of antiquity. Its situation above the narrow Nadiža canyon ties in with the ancient Roman roads from Pradol and Robidišče and on along the Nadiža. The bridge indicates the importance of the region as a through way for traffic ever since Roman times. Today it is an unmissable architectural monument, and link with the past.
