You can reach Slovenia from neighbouring Italy and Croatia by fast passenger
catamaran or
hydrofoil. Vessels from foreign ports may only land at the ports of entry in
Koper and
Piran (and
Izola in the summer season). This also applies to people arriving in Slovenia in sailing vessels, motor boats or yachts. Facilities for nautical tourists on Slovenia's coast include three modern
marinas and a
yacht centre where repairs can be carried out and supplies obtained.
Fast catamarans from Venice

Three fast catamarans operate in the summer season (April to the end of October) offering a once- to thrice-weekly service between Venice and Piran/Izola. The journey takes two and a half hours.

From late April to late September there is a daily fast hydrofoil service between Trieste, Piran, Poreč and Rovinj.

Large cruise ships on Adriatic or Mediterranean cruises occasionally call at Koper, the largest town on Slovenia's Adriatic coast.

Arriving in Slovenia by sailing vessel, motor boat or yacht
Entry to Slovenia is only permitted at the ports of entry in
Koper and
Piran (and
Izola from May to October). After mooring, the vessel, crew and passengers must be declared to the border authorities. The following documents are necessary for this:
- document on ownership of the vessel
- document proving that the skipper is qualified to manage the vessel
- personal identity documents of the passengers on the vessel
Marinas in Slovenia
Slovenia's Adriatic coast has three modern
marinas – in
Portorož,
Koper and
Izola. All of them are holders of the European
Blue Flag eco-label. Izola also has a dedicated
yacht centre offering technical supplies and assistance with repairs. Fuel for boats is available in all the marinas and there are also refuelling stations on the public jetties in Piran and Izola.

Sailing boat hire
Sailing boats are available to hire at several locations on the coast. In order to hire a sailing vessel you need to hold the appropriate sailing licence or hire an experienced
skipper.
