Apart from featuring the world's oldest surviving wooden wheel with an axel, found by archaeologists at the Ljubljana Moors in 2002, the exhibition presents the Ljubljana Moors' prehistoric pile-dwelling culture and the history of the invention of the wheel.

The Ljubljana Moors are a site where archaeologists found more than 10,000 objects dating from different periods in history. The remains of the prehistoric pile-dwelling culture that developed in the area have been given UNESCO World Heritage status.

The most important of all the finds discovered at the Ljubljana Moors is the world's oldest surviving wooden wheel, crafted between 3350 and 3100 BC. Expert analyses suggest that the ash wood wheel and its oak wood axle were made using a remarkably advanced technology, which took into consideration fluctuations due to wood expansion and contraction and included sophisticated methods for joining parts.

The exhibition is accompanied by a wide and varied programme of educational and other events.
