Between 1941-1945 many conscious Slovenes were imprisoned in the court jail in the street Sodna ulica. 661 were executed by gunfire, and to their memory a memorial has been built in to the western side of the prison courtyard wall.

On granite tablets are written the names of those shot, and in niches in the wall are urns with the ashes of the hostages. The architect Jaroslav Černigoj designed the memorial.
