Slovenia’s Karst is criss-crossed by over eight thousand caves. Only 20 or so can be toured by the public, so what about the others? Accompanied by a cave guide, you can become a cave
explorer or try
cave trekking.
Postojna Cave is the only system in the world to offer problem-solving tasks as part of a
teambuilding package. And then there is the exciting exploration of subterranean galleries by
bike.

Caving and cave trekking

In a number of Slovenian caves smaller groups with a guide can explore subterranean caverns and formations that most never get to see. These cave tours can take the form of an
easy hike or
trekking, suitable for all age groups, or a genuine
adrenalin experience. Some parts of the caves can only be accessed with the
right equipment. The tour operators will provide the equipment, and will advise whether you are able to tour the cave in question given your expectations and aims.
Teambuilding and motivational meetings
Under the expert guidance of experienced analysts, you can encourage teamwork, promote collective motivation and study reactions to unexpected situations, all in the
Postojna Cave system. The only such
teambuilding package in the world at this time includes
fun problem-solving, such as treasure hunts.
Underground biking
A wonderful experience can be had in the subterranean shafts and galleries of the abandoned
lead mine in Mežica, below Mt Peca: you can
bike along the galleries.
The
underground galleries in Kranj are a new addition to Slovenia’s subterranean world. They were built during the Second World War as an air-raid shelter, and were abandoned for many years.
If you want even more from your caving exploits, there are organised
caving societies in Slovenia. They give cavers all the skills and experience they need, and use shared caving equipment to explore the larger cave systems.
