The old and unique settlement of Šturje is situated on the left bank of the River Hubelj and boasts numerous architectural jewels. In the past the River Hubelj represented the border between the Gorizia and Carniola regions.
The starting point of the tour is the parking lot in front of the Jochmann Mill nearby the Hubelj Bridge. Cross the River Hubelj and head towards Šturje, the old part of Ajdovščina. In the Cankar Square (Cankarjev trg) visit the Church of St George and do not miss the monument dedicated to the Slovenian writer and poet Filip Terčelj. Continue on along the narrow Slomšek Street (Slomškova ulica) and stop at the very house, where Milan Klemenčič staged the first puppet performance in Slovene language in 1910.
Take a walk along the Gorica Street (Goriška ulica) past the modern office building of the construction company Primorje, which was designed by a famous Slovenian architect Boris Podrecca, and continue down the street past one of the oldest bars in Ajdovščina called Snica.
Tour duration: 60 minutes
