On the competitive level, ice hockey in Slovenia is a world-class
sport. The main hockey centres are Jesenice and Ljubljana, and specifically the arenas of Podmežakla and Hala Tivoli. This means that seeing a hockey match
between rival clubs Acroni Jesenice and Ljubljana’s Union Olimpija is quite an emotion-charged experience. This very popular sport for the fans
has a lot fewer recreational adherents, in contrast to skating. The development of ice hockey, especially at club level, is also vigorously pursued in Celje, Maribor, Kranj and Bled.
