Castle Žužemberk is one of the most picturesque and typical middle eve fortresses in Slovenia. Its ruins are mighty standing up on a step stone land above the river Krka. Stone doors of the tower might have engraved date 1000, what show, that castle was probably built in the times of Vilijem First, who was at that time ruler in the Savinjska region. In the castle were prison cells, later different official offices and the court, till the year 1893, when the castle starts to collapse. The last action in that period was bombardment of the castle during Second World War.  
In 1996 was established restoration board, which cares for restoration of the castle. In the summer months the castle garden host different events organized by Tourist society and other organizations.
