Looking for tips about what to do for the weekend? A trip to Slovenia is an
ideal choice. Since it lies right in the
heart of Europe, a flight of no more than two hours from any other part of Europe will get you to
Ljubljana’s international
Jože Pučnik airport. Add just another half hour and you can be ensconced in one of the capital city’s hotels or in the resort gem of Bled, and then you have the whole weekend of endless possibilities in front of you.
Slovenia is the right choice if you want an
active weekend, or if you just want to
rest after a hard week. In both cases you can be sure that your short visit will involve some outstanding food and wine.
Enchanting Ljubljana
If you’ve come to Slovenia for the first or hundredth time, the country’s capital city of Ljubljana is usually an obligatory part of any visit. A stroll through the old part of Ljubljana at the weekend, when things are lively at the
market and in the
cafés and
restaurants along the banks of the Ljubljanica River, will (always) enchant you. Ljubljana is a
city with a soul and character, says everyone who has been there. It is a lively place in all seasons, including the colder winter months.

You can enjoy Ljubljana in a relaxed way at the weekend, and in a few hours you can then
rent a car or head off to explore Slovenia by
bus or
train.
Iron repertoire
In less than an hour you can be in the embrace of the Alps at
Bled, where you can enjoy the idyllic lake and its tiny island, or you can head off towards the Adriatic Sea and on the way stop in at
Postojna Cave. The biggest coastal town of Koper is an hour’s drive from Ljubjana, and the picturesque
Piran is another 15 minutes. Another fine choice for your weekend is the eastern part of Slovenia, with its numerous
natural health resorts and thermal spas. There you can let yourself be spoiled in the thermal springs or wellness centres, or you could try out one of the many activities on offer.
