In 1995, after having formed part of the municipality of Murska Sobota for 40 years, Puconci once again became the centre of its own municipality, with an area of 107.66 square kilometres and a population of 6,000, in 23 settlements. The village of Puconci is expected to experience considerable economic and spatial growth in the coming years, above all in conjunction with the municipality, the leaders of the local administrative community and the villagers themselves. Activities currently under way in the village of Puconci, in particular the numerous building sites, confirm the optimistic hope that Puconci is on the way to becoming an important and well-kept local and municipal centre. This is something of which the people of Puconci will be justifiably proud. A sundial on the former office building of the Puconci brickworks shows local time. The people of Puconci would like this interesting feature to be protected as an example of cultural and scientific heritage. The local fire brigade is today very well equipped, with two tanker trucks and a fire engine. The local administrative community of Puconci helped with the purchase of equipment and the construction of a hydrant network in the village. The Puconci Beekeeping Society is very active and has 37 members and 1,365 bee colonies. Next year it will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The Puconci Hunting Association, which looks after its own hunting grounds, was founded after the war. Today it is known as the Dolina Hunting Association. The most important sport in the village is football, played here in an organised form since 1951. Today's football club NK Kema competes in the national third division (east) and is currently at the very top of the table. The club also has a youth team who won the league in the 1999/2000 season but owing to financial difficulties and staff problems were not able to compete in the national second division. NK Kema also has cadet, pioneer and young pioneer teams. There are currently around 100 footballers training at this well-organised club. Puconci also has a volleyball club and in recent years the women's volleyball club has become increasingly important. The latter club has four teams – first team, cadets, girls and younger girls – all competing in the national league. There is a lot of interest in volleyball, with between 70 and 80 girls currently training at the club. The youngest organised club in the village is the Puconci table tennis club, which this year is competing in the national first division – a great success if we consider that the club was only founded in 1997. The club's table tennis school attracts large numbers of young players. All these clubs are financially supported by Kema d.d., the local administrative community of Puconci, the municipality of Puconci and numerous sponsors.
