An oral tradition says that once upon a time lived a man with three sons and a daughter. He died before he could make his last will so the children divided the land by themselves. The second son pointed out the land where today’s village of Godnje lies and said: “This is a good position, this is mine.” This is how the name of Godnje was created out of the word good (ugoden) and was mentioned for the first time in 1252. A road with vineyards on both sides leads to the village. Three houses are still covered with škrle. A village well from 1869 has the upper edge made of stone.
The chapel in Godnje from 1897 is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In the village surroundings are several caves.
Automobiles : On the main road Sežana-Nova Gorica, between Tomaj and Dutovlje, turn left for Godnje just before petrol station in Dutovlje.
